Day 4

So I've been reading fat acceptance blogs obsessively since I started this project. I know that obesity has been linked to several health problems. I know that several obese and overweight members of my family don't make wise food choices and/or exercise.

But here's my story. Since I was about 14, I have weighed what I weigh now (give or take 5-7 pounds.) According to my BMI, I should be fifteen to twenty pounds less. Easily. But I have never weighed that little. Even when I was on Adkins, adjusting to high school, experiencing complete misery in marching band, and running two miles a day. Even when I was interning in Mexico, doing manual labor on a daily basis, recovering from a depression, and later mourning the death of my great-grandmother. For the record, I lost about 10 pounds both those times, making me still technically overweight. So for me at least, I'm calling B.S. on BMI.

If I lose ten pounds, awesome. But I'm changing my own perspective. This is about accepting my body and doing right by it. By my sister's wedding, I will look banging, because I'll be confident and toned. Maybe I will have lost some weight, and it will be great if I have. But I'm not wasting any more of my life (or at least this week) wringing my hands, praying to the Great God of BMI to please, please let me be a normal weight. Because I'm over it. The end.

That all said, I'm still going to track my eating and my exercise in order to make sure I am making healthy choices. I mean, I thought I was doing ok, water-wise and fruit/veg wise, but the last couple of days alone have shown that's not always the case. And that's when I was consciously thinking about what I was putting into my body. Yikes.

Midnight snack (because I was so hungry I couldn't read or sleep!)
Apple w/lots of peanut butter
1 slice of non-dyed American cheese*
*I am convinced that the lack of artificial coloring makes this an alright choice

Breakfast
Two pieces of wheat toast w/peanut butter and banana
Tea

Lunch
Naked juice (Strawberry/Banana)
Pretzels
Coffee w/non-fat and Splenda

Dinner
Salad
Rice and black beans
Mixed Lettuce
Tomato (not v. much though)
Salsa
Cheddar cheese
Water-2 big glasses

No workout, although I did a 30 minute power walk to class. Has to count for something, right?

Self-check
